Concrete is an upscale material. Mistakes in the just-in-time logistics can lead to expensive material losses. Therefore it is crucial that the delivering company is well organized and can react quickly to spontaneous changes in the production process on the site. It is also necessary that the foreman on the site communicates regularly with staff from the concrete plant to manage the arrival of trucks in an efficient way. With the use of high-tech equipment in the trucks and in the offices both at the site and on the plant the communication between the plant, the foreman and the truck can be optimized.

The pictures above give an idea of the installation in the cars and in the office at the concrete plant. Every truck is equipped with a mini computer that communicates the position of the truck via SMS to a central server on the internet. The server visualizes the position of each truck on a digital map. The map is displayed on a huge flatscreen in the office. The picture at the left shows a trial installation in a small car, after successful testing the trucks were equipped with the hardware. The partner on this project was the Computer Institute Bamberg (CIBamberg). With this system it is not only possible to track the position of the trucks, it is also possible to communicate with one or all the drivers by sending only one message. The status of the vehicle (load, drive, unload, accident, etc. can be communicated and visualized on the map by the driver with a push of a button. By using thi system the companies were able to considerably increase the efficiency in their work.
